Trout Fishing Hat
For cold water and quiet rivers
The Highlander features embroidered trout artwork. Inspired by cold water, careful casts, and time spent upstream.
This one's about early starts in alpine country. Mist on the water. The deliberate pace of fly fishing or running soft plastics through pocket water. Brown trout, rainbows and the occasional brook trout in the right systems.
The Highlander celebrates one of the most rewarding species in Australian freshwater fishing and the patience it demands.
Where to chase trout in Australia
Trout aren't native to Australia, but populations have been established in cold-water systems across the south for over 150 years. The fishing is genuinely world-class in the right places at the right times. Closed seasons apply in most jurisdictions to protect spawning fish; check your state's regulations.
Tasmania is the heartland. The Western Lakes, Great Lake, Arthurs Lake, the Mersey, the South Esk, the Derwent; the entire central highlands is genuinely world-class trout water.
The Snowy Mountains in NSW deliver alpine streams and lakes through Kosciuszko National Park; the Thredbo, Eucumbene, Murrumbidgee headwaters and Lake Jindabyne all hold fish.
The Victorian high country from the Howqua and Goulburn headwaters through to Lake Eildon and Lake Dartmouth is trout country.
South Australian and Western Australian stocked dams hold smaller populations; mostly put-and-take fishing in cooler microclimates.
What makes a good cap for trout fishing
Trout days are often cold, bright and demanding on the eyes. Polarised sunglasses are essential. A good cap brim makes the polarisation work.
The Highlander is built with vintage-washed cotton and a breathable mesh back. Curved brim cuts glare on highland lakes; the cotton front panel is comfortable in the cold air that comes with most trout sessions.
