Yellowfin Tuna Fishing Hat

Built for the run

Yellowfin tuna are built for speed.

Long runs offshore chasing bird schools. Sounders lit up with bait. The split-second moment when the spread gets eaten and the reel screams.

The YFT celebrates one of the most explosive sport fish in Australian waters and the offshore culture built around chasing them.

Where to chase yellowfin tuna in Australia

Yellowfin are a pelagic species ranging across most of the warmer water around Australia, with seasonal patterns linked to current pushes and bait movements.

Bermagui and Eden on the NSW south coast are world-famous yellowfin grounds, with the run peaking through autumn and into winter.

Port Stephens and the NSW north coast deliver yellowfin through summer and autumn, often within a couple of hours' run from the heads.

The Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast canyons hold yellowfin through summer when the current pushes south.

The Coral Sea and FNQ offshore grounds deliver year-round opportunities with the biggest fish around.

Tasmania and Victorian waters, particularly off the Bass Strait islands and the east coast, deliver yellowfin in the warmer months when the East Australian Current pushes south.

Western Australia's Rottnest Trench and Perth Canyon are emerging yellowfin grounds.

What makes a good yellowfin fishing cap

Yellowfin sessions mean long runs offshore, hours on the deck, sun for ten-hour days. The cap needs to handle sustained sun exposure and the spray that builds up through the day.

The YFT is built with vintage-washed cotton and a breathable mesh back. Curved brim cuts the blue-water glare; the snapback locks in when you're running flat-out to a school.
