Where to chase largemouth bass in Australia
Largemouth bass aren't native to Australia. Wild populations are limited, often heavily regulated, and pest fish status applies in some jurisdictions. If you want to fish for the real thing, you're either heading to a small number of private stocked waters or you're going overseas.
The closest fishable alternative in Australia is the native Australian bass (Macquaria novemaculeata). Different fish, different family, but the fishing rhythm is similar; surface lures, deep structure, weed lines and timber.
Glenbawn, Somerset, Boondooma, Bjelke-Petersen, Borumba, Lake Maroon and St Clair Dam are the legendary Australian bass impoundments along the east coast.
